Colt McCoy throws a pass in Seattle
Colt McCoy will start at quarterback for the Giants against the Browns on Sunday with Daniel Jones out with hamstring and ankle injuries, according to SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano.
McCoy’s lone start of the season came in the team’s Week 13 win over Seattle, when the 34-year-old completed 13 of 22 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown. He was thrust into action when Jones suffered his initial hamstring injury in Week 12, and also came in for the final series in last week’s game against Arizona.
The win against the Seahawks was McCoy’s first as a starter since 2014.
Much like last week, Jones was limited in practice and listed as questionable all week, but it appears he won’t be able to go on Sunday. The second-year signal-caller returned from his hamstring injury to play against the Cardinals, but was hobbled by the end of the game.
The Giants are expected to activate a quarterback from the practice squad to serve as McCoy’s backup for Sunday’s game. Clayton Thoroson backed up McCoy against the Seahawks, but the team also has Alex Tanney and Joe Webb available.
